KARACHI: Senior executives at Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) are confused as the state-run company’s board didn’t mention any PPL employee in its recommendations for the office of Managing Director.

Since 2018, there has been no permanent head of PPL. The previous government of PML-N had appointed Syed Wamiq Bokhari as managing director of PPL. Up till July 2014, PPL always had a CEO who rose from within the company and Bokhari was first head of PPL who came from outside of the company.

PPL’s board has recommended Zahid Mir, Masood Siddiqui, Arshad Mirza and Irfan Siddiqui. Both Zahid Mir and Masood Siddiqui have headed Oil & Gas Development Company (OGDC); Arshad Mirza is a bureaucrat and Irfan Siddiqui is associated with Halliburton.

Sources said that leaving PPL’s seasoned employees in board’s recommendation for the office of MD was not comprehendible, as a synergy had already been developed and company’s affairs were moving in the right direction.
