MCC Port Qasim books importer for submitting fake pay orders

KARACHI: MCC Port Qasim has lodged an FIR against M/s Kamran Enterprises for evasion of duty and taxes and getting delivery of goods by submitting fake and forged pay orders.

According to the details of the case, the pay order was received for the provisional assessment of consignment of assorted pile fabrics imported by M/s Kamran Enterprises. The importer had claimed benefit of SRO 1125(I)/2011 i.e. zero rating of sales tax.

The imported requested provisional assessment and submitted pay of the differential amount of Rs1.85 million.

On the directives of Collector MCC Port Qasim Mumtaz Khoso and Additional Collector Mushtaq Shahani, scrutiny of pay orders was conducted in the supervision of Deputy Collector Umair Latif. The pay order submitted by M/s Karman Enterprises was verified by the concerned bank and found to be fake.

A case has been lodged against the accused importer and investigations are underway.

Meanwhile, Mumtaz Khoso held a meeting which was attended by Additional Collectors Fawwad Shah, Honak Baloch, Mushtaq Shahani and deputy collectors. The officers presented their performance reports, to which Collector expressed satisfaction. The meeting decided to further tighten the vigilance on imports and other illegal activities resulting in revenue loss to the national exchequer.

Mumtaz Khoso advised the team to conduct as much examination of imported goods, particularly the consignments being processed through green channel.
