KARACHI: Anti-smuggling Organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive Karachi has sped up its activities and during reinforced anti-smuggling drive, the collectorate seized smuggled goods and carrier vehicles worth Rs150.7 million in the month of January so far.

Collector Preventive Saquib Saeed has advised Deputy Collector Akbar Jan and Superintendent Jamal Zia and Iftikhar Hasan to tighten vigilance on the movement of smuggled goods.

In pursuance of credible information ASO Preventive Karachi raided a warehouse at Bolton Market Karachi and recovered smuggled cigarettes of assorted brands worth Rs11.275 million.

ASO Preventive raided Designers Plaza Tariq Road and recovered ladies and gents suiting fabric. The team faced stiff resistance including hooliganism and firing but the operation was successfully completed. The goods seized are worth Rs16.5 million.

In another operation, warehouses in Jodia Bazar were raided and betel nut worth Rs6.4 million were seized. During a raid at Pak International Cargo Terminal, large quantity of smuggled goods including cloth, betel nut, gutka and cigarettes along with carrier vehicles worth Rs25.47 million were seized.

ASO Preventive also recovered large quantity of smuggled cigarettes, Sheesha flavors and Toyota Vigo vehicle worth Rs45.74 million from warehouses at Bolton market.

Moreover, ASO seized a trailer from Shershah area containing 38 tons of betel nut worth Rs45.4 million.

Cases have been lodged against the accused including Syed Abdul Sadiq s/o Syed Abdul Raqib and others, and further legal proceedings are underway.
