KARACHI: Two identical petitions filed by Messrs Iqbal & Sons and A.K.International were disposed of by a custom appellate bench of High Court of Sindh after statement by the counsel for petitioners.
The bench comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Mahmood A Khan heard counsel from Franklin Law Associates who appearing for the petitioners submitted that pursuant to courts order for provisional release after securing of disputed amount of duty and taxes and lab test which came in favour of the petitioner, petitions are not pressed and may be disposed of with the direction to the respondent custom officials to assess the imported goods on the basis of Goods Declaration filed by the petitioners. The counsel also prayed for direction to return the surety paid in the form of pay order within short time.
The counsel for custom officials supported such statement by the counsel for petitioner submitting that department is ready to assess the goods.
The bench after hearing the sides ordered the respondents to assess the same strictly according to law and to return the surety within two weeks time.
