Karachi: The College of Computer Science & Information System (CCSIS) at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) organized the 13th International Conference on Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science and Statistics (MACS) on December 14-15, 2019. The event attracted professionals, researchers, faculty and university students from Pakistan and abroad. MACS-13 was organized in collaboration with the University of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The technical partner was the Karachi Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Prof. Dr. Shahrulniza Bin Musa, Deputy President, University of Kuala Lumpur, Guest of Honor; Prof. Dr. M. Shahid Shaikh, Chairman, IEEE Karachi Section; IoBM’s Mr. Talib Karim, President; Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Rector; Dr. Tariq Rahim Soomro, Dean CCSIS, Dr. S. M. Aqil Burney, HoD, Actuarial Sciences, Risk Management & Mathematics among others were present at the inaugural session.

CCSIS-IoBM has been organizing MACS for thirteen consecutive years. Dr. Soomro, while congratulating the CCSIS faculty said that students will network with national and international researchers during this conference. He was confident that MACS will help IoBM comprehend how the knowledge economy will play its role in the future. Highlighting the objectives of the conference, Dr. Hyder said that the practitioners of computer science must think beyond their limitations. He mentioned that the progress of the last century has been based on the advancements in ‘mathematical computation’. The IEEE Karachi Chapter has been supporting IoBM’s conferences as a technical partner. Dr. Shaikh said that the country’s talented human resource will overcome the challenges arising due to transformation from industrial to digital economy. Dr. Musa said that the University of Kuala Lumpur has collaborated with IoBM and will continue to do so in academics and research. During his speech, Mr. Talib Karim said that our focus should remain on producing technology entrepreneurs. The students and faculty from various disciplines benefited from the researches and scholarly discussions held during MACS-13.
