SHC asks customs counsel to comply with office objections in 2 days

KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Mahmood A Khan on Thursday asked the counsel for Pakistan Customs to remove office objections within two days in a SCRA filed by the department.

The bench earlier heard Sardar Muhammad Ishaq advocate who submitted that the petitioner Nizam Baba has imported a consignment of perfume for Afghanistan which was seized and later confiscated by the department.

The Collector Appeal ordered release of the consignment against securing differential amount of custom duty and taxes but department did not released the same and which may have expired in the preceding years (Since 2012 onwards).

The counsel for petitioner further submitted that department has not obtained any stay or attempted to proceed with the SCRA in these seven long years. Even they have not complied with the initial objections raised by the office of the court.

This irked the bench which expressing dismay ordered counsel for  customs department to comply with the same within 2 days. The court also fixed Dec 11 for next hearing.
