SHC bench raises question over conduct of customs assessment without assessment order

KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Mahmood A Khan on Wednesday expressed surprise over action by Pakistan Customs and asked Counsel for MCC, East to explain why assessment was done without an assessment Order.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Surfactant chemicals Co. (Pvt) Ltd against FBR and MCC West and East.

Khalid Rajpar advocate appearing for the MCC West to a query by the court submitted that reply has been filed by MCC West. Masooda Siraj appearing for MCC East was unable to respond to the said question and explain that why comments could not be filed during previous two years.

The petitioner has imported Solvents, Stabilizers (Pesticides) and claimed concession being importer in which category petitioner do not falls.

The bench expressing surprise over conduct of custom officials of MCC East adjourned further proceedings to an unspecified date.
