ASO Preventive recovers smuggled Gutka worth Rs12.075 million

KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive Karachi has recovered huge quantity of smuggled Gutka from Hilal Associates in Gulberg Town. The seized commodity is worth Rs12.075 million.

Information was received through Collector Saquib Saeed to the effect that a considerable quantity of smuggled foreign origin Gutka had been secreted at, Hilal Associates, Gulberg Town, Karachi and would likely to be remove from that premises shortly.

Pursuant to aid information a Customs team headed by the Deputy Collector of Customs, MCC Preventive Hqrs-I, was constituted to foil the attempt and conduct the search accordingly.

The Customs team reached the spot and  the search of the premise resulted in recovery of huge quantity of assorted bags containing foreign origin Safina brand Gutka.

An FIR is lodged and investigations are underway while efforts are being made to arrest the persons involved in the crime.

During anti-smuggling drive, acting on a credible information, ASO/MCC Preventive seized a  passenger bus at Moachko Choke Point and recovered Clothes, Gutka , Tyres , Ajinomoto salt,  Fabric from it. The total value of seizure is approximately Rs 18.2 million. Moreover, ASO/MCC Preventive Karachi raided two warehouses in jodia Bazar, seizing huge quantities of smuggled betel nuts and Indian gutka worth Rs10.5 million.

It may be mentioned here that ASO Preventive led by Deputy Collector Akbar Kan, Superintendent Jamal Zia and IPS Iftikhar Hasan has been quite efficient against smuggling and transportation of smuggled goods. On the other hand, the ASO of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has not been so efficient since Superintendent Irshad Shah was transferred to Gwadar.
