KARACHI: Hearing two identical petitions filed by Messrs Iffat Enterprises and Akhtar & Sons, importers of LED lights, parts and chandeliers a custom appellate bench of High Court of Sindh on Tuesday ordered the collectorate concerned to process the Goods Declaration and not to harass the petitioners.

The petitioners moved the court through Franklin Law Associates submitting that their GDs were processed and assessment was underway when the R&D stopped the assessment and put the consignments to re-examination. They allegedly found discrepancy in “internal weight” and made a contravention report. This was followed by a show cause notice issued on 30-10-2019 and hearing was fixed for the next date i.e 31-10-2019. The petitioners went into Adjudication on 1-11-2019 but R & D on the same date lodged a FIR.

The bench today after hearing the counsel for petitioners ordered the collectorate concerned to process the GDs while restraining the customs from harassment or arrest. The bench issued notice to the respondents for Nov 21 seeking comments on or before next date of hearing.
