KARACHI: MCC Appraisement East has lodged an FIR against M/s Iffat Enterprises and M/s Akhtar & Sons for evasion of duty/taxes by mis-declaring description and quantity of imported goods.
Information was received through Collector MCC Appraisement East Nadeem Memon in R&D Section that accused importer M/s Iffat Enterprises with active connivance of their clearing agent M/s Akhtar & sons had committed misdeclaration in imported.
On physical examination of the imported consignment conducted on the directives of Additional Collector Rizwan Bashir by Deputy Collector Rana Arslan, Principal Appraiser Ibrahim Khan, Senior Preventive Officer Malak Hashim and Appraising Officers Khawer Hashmi, Kaleem Chatha the veracity of the information was been established.
The examination of consignment imported by M/s Iffat Enterprises recovered the goods valuing US$43,577 instead of declared value of US$19,776. The accused attempted to evade legitimate revenue to the tune of Rs6.825 million (excluding of fine and penalty).
An FIR is lodged and investigations are underway. It may be mentioned here that Collector Nadeem Memon had undertaken restructuring of R&D section, following which the R&D section had become quite effective and efficient.
To recall, MCC Appraisement East, a couple of days ago, had lodged three FIRs against certain importers and clearing agents for attempting to evade duty/tax through misdeclaration of description, quantity and value of the imported goods.
