Customs restrained from action against shipping agent

KARACHI: Pakistan Custom officials were restrained from harassing or adverse action against United Marine Agency, a shipping agent for Hyundai Merchant Line.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by United Marine Agency  for including their name in para 15 of the two FIR’s 11 and 12 of 2019 pertaining to alleged smuggling of auto parts in the garb of used clothes (Lunda).

A counsel from Franklin Law Associates appearing for the petitioner agent submitted that BL was issued by the Hyundai Merchant Lines and IGM was filed as per BL, hence no crime or contravention is made out against the shipping agent. The officials of the petitioner were named in the FIRs just to cause harassment and to damage their reputation.

The bench after initial hearing while restraining the custom officials from any adverse action or harassment also summoned a detailed report from them by Oct 15.
