MCC Peshawar starts 24/7 Customs clearance at Torkham border

PESHAWAR: MCC Appraisement Peshawar has begun 24/7 processing of trade consignments at Torkham Border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Collector Peshawar Ihsan Ali Shah said the step was taken to facilitate trade between two countries, and Prime Minister Imran Khan would formally inaugurate the facility in a few days.

Presently, around 900 trucks load of cargo is cleared from MCC Appraisement Peshawar. Customs processing 24 hours a day and seven days a week (24/7) would promote bilateral trade.

It may be mentioned here that on August 19, 2019 time of Customs processing was extended from 06AM to 08PM on all days of the week. Now, the timings for Customs clearance at Torkham border are extended to 24 hours a day.

Collector Peshawar said Chairman FBR and Member Customs had extended all cooperation and provided the resources required to initiate 24/7 Customs processing.

Collector Preventive Peshawar Asif Lugmani said this development would promote bilateral trade on one hand, and generate employment opportunities in the area on the other.

Asif Lugmani is also taking measures such as more check posts and patrolling to tighten enforcement and prevent smuggling. Moreover, MCC Preventive Peshawar has approached NLC seeking assistance and cooperation in this regard.
