KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan on Friday issued notices to the FBR, Pakistan Customs and other respondents for Aug 22 in a petition challenging imposition of three percent Minimum Value Addition Tax.
Appearing for petitioners Mian Shafique International Private Limited and Export Trading Corporation, a counsel from Franklin Law Associates submitted that Sales Tax at a rate of 17 per cent is being charged at import stage. He further contended that Schedule 12 has been inserted and 7 a (2) has been amended to charge 3 per cent more tax which is contrary to law.
The bench after initial hearing ordered issuance of notices to the respondents for Aug 22. As the vires of the act has been challenged Attorney General Pakistan was also put on notice for the said date.
