China grants three state of the art scanning machines to MCC JIAP

KARACHI: The Consulate General of Peoples Republic of China has handed over three state of the art cargo scanning machines to MCC JIAP, which would be installed at Air Freight Unit (AFU), at a ceremony held here on Friday.

The scanning machines will be utilized for non-intrusive inspections at Jinnah international Airport (JIAP). These scanning machines will be used for import and export cargo clearance through green channel, and will enhance customs capacity to both facilitate bona-fide trade and passenger handling through green channel as well as will help detecting smuggling of contraband goods.

Member Customs Jawwad Awais Agha, chief guest, highlighted the significance of all weather friendship of China with Pakistan in the backdrop China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and one belt one road (OBOR) initiative.

“China is Pakistan’s best friend and has always come forward to help Pakistan. This time Chinese consulate Karachi supported Pakistan Customs in shape of granting three latest scanner machines.”

The process of grant was initiated back in August 2018 by the then Deputy Collector AFU Shoaib Raza when Chen Xiaodong, Deputy Consul General of People’s Republic of China, visited AFU JIAP and expressed his willingness to enhance cooperation with Pakistan Customs by supporting the organization with latest non-intrusive tools.

Later the formal request for the said grant was initiated by Deputy Collector Shoaib Raza which took six months to materialize.

While giving his concluding remarks, Member Customs Jawwad Awais Agha assured to arrange latest scanning machines at other customs stations in order to curb the menace of increased smuggling.

Chief Collectors Wasif Memon and Surayya Butt, Collector MCC JIAP Feroz Alam Junejo, Additional Collector Sanaullah Abro, Deputy Collector Muhammad Faisal. Moreover, Collector MCC Port Qasim Mumtaz Khoso, Collector Appraisement East Nadeem Memon, Collector Appraisement West Wajid Ali, Collector MCC Exports Saifuddin Junejo, Collector Adjudication Iqbal Bhawana, Collector Preventive Fareed Iqbal Qureshi were also present on the occasion.
