KARACHI: Customs Intelligence and Investigation has started raiding markets and warehouses housing smuggled goods, as the government has planned an across country crackdown on smuggling.

Director General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Zahid Khokhar have advised his team to eliminate transportation, distribution and sale of smuggled goods in the country.

As part of this campaign, Customs Intelligence Karachi received information regarding presence of smuggled areca (betel nut) at Jodia Bazar, Karachi, for its further transportation and disposal in to local market.

Subsequently, a team of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) led by Superintendent Irshad Shah approached Jodia Bazar and recovered lrge quantity of foreign origin Areca Nut. Upon query no person came forward to claim the ownership of the said goods on the spot.

The value of the seized goods is estimated at Rs9.652 million. Further investigations are underway.
