SHC order making IRS party in petitions by plastic scrap importers
KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Mahmood A Khan on Wednesday ordered petitioners who are importers of plastic scrap to amend the titles making Inland Revenue Service (IRS) party to the petition.
The bench also ordered that IRS on receipt of notices will inspect the manufacturing units of the petitioner and make a separate report for each petitioner/unit.
The Pakistan Customs was also ordered to coordinate the efforts and if IRS finds the unit as per rules then consignments detained by the customs is to be released immediately.
Hundreds of consignments by dozens of plastic scrap importers were detained by the Pakistan Customs on the pretext that the importers/petitioners are taking advantage of concession of Sales Tax claiming to be manufacturers while they are selling the imported consignments in open market thus causing loss of heavy revenue to the national exchequer.
