NEPRA to hear Gul Ahmed and Tapal Energy’s PPA extension petitions on June 18
KARACHI: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) would take up the petitions of Gul Ahmed Energy and Tapal Energy on June 18, 2019; as both the independent power producers have sought 5-year extension in their power purchase agreement (PPA) with K-Electric.
Tapal Energy has also sought determination of tariff for proposed extension in PPA for another five years from June 20, 2019 to June 20, 2024 for its power plant located in Karachi. The plant generates 126 MW gross and a net of 123.5 MW power on RFO fuel, which is supplied to K-Electric.
Tapal Energy entered into a power purchase agreement dated September 26, 1995 with K-Electric Limited - formerly Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Limited – for a period of 22 years.
K-Electric has also submitted a power acquisition request to the authority requesting the authority to allow the utility company to acquire power from Tapal Energy for the PPA term extension.
Similarly Gul Ahmed Energy Limited has filed a tariff petition with NEPRA to determine tariff for the proposed extension of the PPA for further five years from November 3, 2019 to November 2, 2024, for its 136.17 MW power plant at reference site conditions, on RFO fuel.
[the_ad id="32940"]The power plant is located at Korangi Industrial Township, Karachi and the power generated from it is supplied to K-electric. Gul Ahmed has proposed a tariff control period of 5 years. Gul Ahmed has proposed a tariff of Rs.12.0174 per kWh.
Gul Ahmed entered into a power purchase agreement dated June 7, 1995 with K-Electric Limited - formerly Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Limited – for a period of 22 years. It has successfully operated its facility for over 21 years. In compliance with its PPA obligations, company has generated approximately 790 GWH/annum of power, which has been supplied to KE, allowing KE, in turn, to meet its consumer demand.
Gul Ahmed and K-Electric, in pursuance of their rights emanating from section 4.1(c) of the PPA, have been engaged in discussions for extending the term of the PPA for an additional period of five years.
K-Electric has also submitted a power acquisition request to the authority requesting the authority to allow the utility company to acquire power from Gul Ahmed for the PPA term extension.
