KARACHI: MCC Jinnah International Airport (JIAP), Karachi has detected a scam wherein a passenger Muhammad Umer S/o Mehmood Akhtar misused data of incoming passengers from abroad, and used the same for registration of IMEI numbers with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) without payment of duty and taxes.[the_ad id=”31605″]On information received through Deputy Collector Muhammad Faisal, Customs staff recovered 63 cell phones from his possession which were seized after completion of legal formalities.
Enquires further revealed that the passenger Muhammad Omer had fraudulently used the passports, CNICs Numbers, flight number and destination for registration of cell phones with PTA and had mentioned his three cell numbers for registration of all the 63 cell phones.
Further enquiry revealed that Muhammad Omer is involved in illegal registration of cell phones at Lahore by using the data of incoming passenger from abroad and in this connection he had fraudulently registered several cell phones under the same modus operandi.
The passenger Muhammad Omer has now been arrested and his remand was obtained for further investigation. During the course of investigation it emerged that he in nexus with Ali Raza Sandhu, various travel agencies based at Lahore had been registering the smuggled cell phones by using the data of the incoming passengers, and even those passengers had no knowledge of registration of cell phones under their names.
Inquiries are underway to conclude the case in logical manner.
