KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Karachi has unearthed a mega scam of duty and taxes evasion through the misuse of green channel facility by M/s. Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (Ufone).[the_ad id=”31605″]Sources said Director I&I Karachi Irfan Jawaid passed the information to Additional Director Ali Zaman Gardezi regarding evasion of duty and taxes on the import of telecommunication equipment. Subsequently, a team comprising Deputy Director Muhammad Zohaib, Intelligence Officers Shabeeh Haider and Muhammad Saud detected massive revenue evasion under the garb of under-invoicing, concealment of actual description and quantity of telecommunication equipment imported by renowned telecom company M/s. Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (Ufone).
Three consignments cleared through green channel in April 2019 from MCC PQ were seized involving evaded/recoverable duty and taxes amounting to Rs246 million.
According to initial investigation, the modus operandi adopted by the importer was suppression of value in the garb of abnormal and unauthorized discounts, concealment of description of the equipment, misstatement regarding quantity and submission of vague documents.
The goods have been seized and a case has been forwarded for adjudication
