SHC suspends demand notices for Sales Tax, hearing after 2 weeks

KARACHI: A custom appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan on Monday suspended demand notices issued to the importer by Pakistan Customs on WeBOC system pertaining to consignments cleared way back in October 2017.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Syed Mohammad & Sons Trading Company through Franklin Law Associates who maintained that they got six consignments cleared from port on payment of custom duty, taxes etc. Now they have received a demand on WeBOC system and custom authorities are demanding dues of Regulatory Duty (RD) under SRO 1035 of 2017 which has been declared illegal by the superior courts.

The bench after hearing initial arguments suspended the demand notice while adjourning further proceedings for two weeks while directing the respondents to submit their written reply.
