KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Monday adjourned till April 29, hearing of a number of constitution petitions challenging imposition of Regulatory Duty (RD) with retrospective effect.

Additional Attorney General for Pakistan Zahid F Ebrahim representing the federal government submitted that the parliament is empowered to allow enforcement of any law with restrospective effect as in the instant case. He was on his feet when the court deferred further hearing.

The petitioners/importer have challenged the imposition of RD with retrospective effect om ground that it was a constitution defect and not a procedural defect which can be cured under an act of parliament. A bench of SHC has struck down the RD and the said decision was upheld by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
