KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan on Wednesday adjourned hearing in over 80 identical petitions challenging vires of the 3 per cent additional Sales Tax imposed through Finance Bill.
The adjournment came on the request of counsel for Pakistan Customs and Federal government who sought time to submit documents they are relying upon.
The petitioner maintains that the imposition of additional sales tax at the rate of three per cent at import stage is unconstitutional and hence be declared illegal and void. No such amendment can be made on the basis of a finance bill, they contends. They also challenged the applicability of the said tax with retrospective effect.
