KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Arshad Hussain on Tuesday fixed May 02 to hear a petition filed by Qasim Brothers, importers, exporters of cow hides and skin.
The controversy involves application of application of PCT heading according to weight (per kilogram) or measure (per square foot).
A counsel from Franklin Law Associates appearing for the petitioner company submitted that the custom authorities instead of applying PCT heading according to weight is determining value as per measurement on the intervention of the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA).
He further submitted that as per judgment regarding section 25-D of Customs Act 1969, associations have no role in determination of custom duty, taxes etc therefore custom authorities cannot determine the value as per letter of the PTA.
The bench later adjourned further proceedings till May 02.
