Customs seek time in suits by importers of solar LED’s

KARACHI: Justice Junaid Ghaffar of High Court of Sindh deferred hearing of two identical suits filed by Aleem Enterprises and D.G.Khan Cement challenging refusal of grant of concessions in custom duty, sales tax as well as other taxes.

According to details, plaintiffs imported LED lights and tube lights and sought exemption on the basis of a letter of clarification issued by the Federal Board of Revenue and Concurrence letter issued by the Alternate Energy Board which is encouraging use of solar power in the country.

A counsel from Franklin Law Associates representing the plaintiffs submitted that re-examination has been conducted and filed by the plaintiffs was declared correct by the re-examining authority and hence further delay in release of the consignments, one each imported by the plaintiffs are causing difficulties for them.

A counsel appearing for defendants sought time to file a reply after seeking instructions. The bench allowing the request deferred further hearing for two weeks.[the_ad id=”31605″]
