Smuggled liquor worth Rs400 million seized

KARACHI: Anti-smuggling organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive Karachi in a joint operation with Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) seized huge quantity of liquor worth Rs400 million and arrested seven persons.

Intelligence sources had provided credible information about a bid to smuggle a large quantity of illegal liquor through sea routes. Subsequnetly, collector Preventive Dr. Fareed Iqbal Qureshi assigned Deputy Director Muhammad Faisal to pursue the case.

According to details, a joint operation was conducted at sea near Kalmat and around 65,000 bottles of liquor and wine were recovered from a boat. Market value of seized wine and liquor bottles is around Rs400 million.

It was also known that as a result of exchange of fire between the smugglers and security agency, the smugglers’ boat was drowned, However, seven accused were arrested. Initial interrogation found that the liquor was being brought from Dubai, UAE. Further investigations are under way.¬† [the_ad id=”31605″]
