KARACHI: An appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Abdul Malik Gaddi suspended an order passed by Commissioner, Inland Revenue cancelling exemption certificate issued to the Sahara Welfare Trust.[the_ad id=”32940″]The bench was hearing a petition filed by the trust against Pakistan Customs which detained its five consignments consisting of donated old, used clothes for winter season.

As the petition came up for hearing, a representative of Pakistan Customs, East, Appraisement informed the bench that the Inland Revenue department has cancelled the exemption to the petitioner and thus no exemption is available to the petitioner trust.

The bench questioned that how on the basis of a notice issued under section 21 of the tax law, the custom can detain the consignments in dispute.

The bench after a brief hearing suspended the order of Commissioner Inland Revenue while deferring further proceedings till March 14 at 11 a.m.
