KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh hearing petitions challenging vires of Section 221 (2) on Wednesday heard the counsels for petitioners and later deferred further hearing till March 19 when it will hear arguments by Deputy Attorney General and Pakistan Customs.[the_ad id="31605"]The issue was raised as government imposed Regulatory Duty (RD) on imports and later Pakistan Customs levied the same by inserting section 221 (2). The petitions were filed by Premier Enterprises, Bays International and others. A counsel from Franklin Law Associates representing a number of petitioners Wednesday argued that the insertion of the impugned section nullifies the judgments by the Supreme Court and SHC which declared that no tax could be levied through Finance Bill. The customs in violation of judgments has wrongly inserted the impunged section, contended the counsel. The bench later fixed march 19 for final arguments by the DAG and Customs side.
