Auction of medical equipment stayed by SHC

KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Abdul Malik Gaddi on Monday stayed auction of medical equipment imported by Medica Pvt Limited, sole agent and distributor of Shoren group, Italy.

The four consignments were imported under “Open Account” facility which was suspended by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on July 20, 2018. The customs officials questioned the import after suspension.

The petitioner/importer moved the authorities for Advance Bill and while the request was under process by the regulator and amidst claim that import was made prior to suspension of the facility, the custom authorities of MCC, Appraisement, East and West put the shipments in dispute to auction to be held today (Feb 26).[the_ad id=”32940″]The bench Monday after hearing the counsel for petitioner stayed the auction of disputed goods till further orders.
