SHC suspends demand notice issued by Pakistan Customs

KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmd Abbasi and Justice Abdul Malik Gaddi on Wednesday suspends demand raised by Pakistan Customs with Bio Techi Private Ltd.

According to the petitioner, they deals in bio diesel products which are exempted from Sales tax and Income Tax under SRO 610 of 2015. The petitioner company imported 24 consignments during Jan-June 2016 but a dispute arise over custom duties. The petitioner challenged the demand notice requiring payment of rupees 37 million against assessment. The department also moved for encashment of bak guarantee.

The bench today after hearing a lawyer from Franklin Law Associates appearing for the petitioner suspended the demand notices and asked the department to process the GD’s filed as clearance was over due.
