KARACHI: Sindh High Court has served a Show Cause Notice on Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Fayyaz Anwar and Additional Director Ali Zaman Gardezi in a contempt application filed by M/s I.A.S Trading.
The court has ordered both the officers to appear before the court on February 01, 2019.
M/s I.A.S Trading submitted before the court requesting to initiate contempt proceedings against the above named persons for wilfully flouting, disobeying and disregardrng the orders by the court in the instant petition, whereby the respondents were ordered to allow provisional release of the goods loaded on four trucks on deposit of the disputed amount of duty and taxes in the shape of pay order/bank guarantee before the concerned Collectorate.
The respondents were further directed to immediately de-seal the godowns of the petitioners.
The application submitted that despite several attempts the officers did not respond and did not provide the format of bank guarantee, nor the warehouse was de-sealed.
The application submitted that on 10.01.2019, Pay Order of an amount of Rs.1.52 million was made fot submission to the concemed Collectorate. The concerned Collectorate refused to receive the Pay Order and directed the petitioner to furnish the same to the Office of the DIT. It was received by the office of DIT on 11.01.2019.
4. That by way of letter dated 14.01.2019, the Officer of DIT was once again requested to comply with the Order of the Court and to release the consignment, however, the same went unnoticed.
The officers blatantly and wilfully flouting the order passed by the Court aimed at eroding public confidence in the juthcial process and destroying the faith and confidence of the people in the judiciary.
