KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Karachi has seized smuggled goods worth Rs83.6 million in two weeks.
ASO wing of Customs Intelligence & Investigation conducted several operations in various parts of Karachi in coordination with local place and seized large quantity of smuggled goods including betel nut, cigarettes, tyres, HSD oil and vehicles including a Mazda truck, Shehzore Truck, a Toyota Premio, a Hino Tanker etc.
Moreover, in pursuance of specific information regarding gross mis-declaration in consignment cleared from MCC Quetta comprising perfumes, body sprays and air fresheners, Customs Intelligence Karachi staff intercepted a container at Super Highway. The container was brought to the Directorate’s premises and scrutiny of documents found huge discrepancies.
The importer had paid only Rs1.14 million as duty/tax at MCC Quetta, whereas, the actual liability was calculated at Rs4.75 million in the light of Valuation Ruling No.866/2016. The container and goods have been seized and further proceedings are underway.
An official said, after Muhammad Zahid Khokhar assumed the office of Director General Customs Intelligence & Investigation, he initiated restructuring the Customs Intelligence & Investigation and posted efficient and well reputed officials and officers on key positions, which had started to yield results.
