QUETTA: Lakpass check-post staff of MCC Quetta seized large quantity of smuggled contraband after a gun battle with the smugglers.
Informationwas passed about movement of smuggled goods from Collector MCC Quetta Ashraf Ali and DC Preventive Maqbool Baloch.
Subsequently, staff of Customs Check Post Lakpass spotted and signalled a Karachi bound coach to stop.
But the driver tried to sped away the coach, while gunmen sitting in two cars escorting the said coach started firing on Customs staff in order to make the escape of coach possible .
Brave Customs personnel fired on tyres of coach and bursted them and managed to bring the coach in boundry wall of Lakpass Post amid huge resistance by smugglers.
A vehicle of Customs also received bullets but fortunately Staff remained safe.
Upon checking 250 bags of Indian origin Gutka and 350 kg smuggled fabric were recovered from hidden cavities of the coach .
One person has also been arrested by Customs Staff.
Value of seized goods is about Rs2.0 million. Collector appreciated the role of Lakpass Check Post officer Aslam Solungi and his team for this bravery.
