KARACHI: Being based in the Imperial Custom House, Karachi, DGTR stands as a symbol of Pakistan Customs rich heritage. Aware of the need to preserve the heritage, the Directorate General of Training & Research (DGTR) is creating a state of the art museum for Customs.

The decision was taken at the meeting chaired by Director Irfan Javed. The meeting was also attended by Additional Director Jawed Sarwar Sheikh, Deputy Directors Ammar Mir and Zamzam Aman.

It will house an extensive collection of antiques, artifacts, weapons, samples of narcotics as well as selected seized items. The DGTR plans to open museum to the public on Saturdays in order to familiarize people with Pakistan Customs and its role as custodian of the nation’s territorial and economic frontiers, as well as bridging the gap between Customs and the community it serves.

Furthermore, there is a plan to include it in the educational visit itinerary of educational institutions.

The DGTR also plans to register it with the respective provincial/ national heritage/ museum authorities for future support. The task is already underway and the Pak PWD has been entrusted with the subject work, which is already physically working on the subject venture.
