KARACHI: Justice Junaid Ghaffar of High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Friday disposed of 75 suits challenging imposition of super tax as “withdrawn” while 25 suits were entertained after the plaintiffs deposited 50 per cent of the disputed amount before relevant authorities.

According to details, federal government in 2015 imposed super tax upon companies having a turn-over of rupees 50 million.

The companies filed the suits but recently Supreme Court of Pakistan ruled that plaintiff have to pay 50 per cent of the amount in dispute to get their cases entertained.

As the suit were taken up by, 25 plaintiffs informed the bench that they have deposited the 50 per cent amount while75 plaintiffs informed the bench that they intend to withdraw the suit and seek remedy before the departmental authorities.

The single judge allowed the request and disposed of the suits as “withdrawn”.

The judgment will reduce the burden on courts as importers/companies would now prefer to get the issued resolved at departmental level.
