KARACHI: An appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Mrs Ashraf Jahan on Friday restrained In Land Revenue from recovering Sales Tax dues worth Rupees 153,711,886 from Karim Ghee & Oil Mills.

The bench earlier heard counsel for petitioner challenging order of Collector Inland Revenue passed under section 45 of the Sales Tax Act 1990. Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen, counsel for petitioner submitted that she has filed a Sales Tax Appeal (STA) before the competent tribunal but as it is vacant, no proceedings were held. She further submitted that while appeal remains pending, Deputy Commissioner IR issued a notice under section 48 of the Sales Tax Act for attachment of bank accounts of the petitioner company.

The bench after hearing initial arguments restrained Inland Revenue from enforcing recovery till Jan 8 when petition will be heard.
