KARACHI: The collectorate concerned of Pakistan Customs, Karachi was directed by a division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) to submit details of consignments of LED lights pending release.

The bench comprising Justice Muinb Akhtar and Justice Omar Sial prior to issuance of direction heard counsel for more than two dozen petitioners/importers represented by Franklin Law Associates.

The bench which has passed interim order allowing concessionary rate of custom duty and other taxes to consignments of LEC lights which are not manufactured in Pakistan, inquired from Energy Development Board that if they have any reservation about an official communication/letter placed on record of the court which confirmed that LED lights are subject to concession as per SRO, they shall controvert the same in writing. The bench refusing to entertain the verbal challenge to the letter sought objections in writing by the respondent side. The bench allowing time put further hearing till Dec 14.

The counsel for petitioner pointed out that still 25-30 consignments are stuck up at which the bench asked the respondent officials to submit details of all consignments pending release by next date of hearing.
