KARACHI: An appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Omar Sial on Wednesday adjourned hearing of dozens of petitions challenging imposition of Regulatory Duty till Nov 08 after counsel for petitioners concluded their arguments.

Barrister Khalid Javed Khan, Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen advocate and lawyer for Franklin Law Associates advanced  arguments. The counsel relied on Supreme Court’s judgment in Mustafa Impex case wherein apex court has ordered that any levy, duty or tax imposed without the sanction of the federal cabinet would be held  legal.

Salman Talibuddin, Deputy Attorney General will address the court on Nov 08. The petitions pertain to imposition of Regulatory Duty on more than four hundred items and was aimed at reducing the  import bill which was increasing day by day.

The petitioners questions the RD on a number of items which are not manufactured locally.
