KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Quetta has informed that 22 trucks of smuggled goods were seized by the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation, Quetta  on 05.07.2017 with the support of FC under supervision of Director, Irfan Javed and Deputy Director, Inamullah Wazir.

Resultantly, seizure reports were issued on the basis of tentative quantity of goods which were still loaded in the trucks under the custody of FC. FC officers/officials were repeatedly requested to initiate joint stock taking for transparency for which several visits to FC premises were made by the Director Irfan Javed and Deputy Director Inamullah Wazir.

However, due to engagement of FC in operational issues, the same could not be done conclusively, despite repeated visits of respective five different officers. Subsequently, a dedicated team consisting of three Intelligence Officers was constituted, but the team submitted its inability to complete the task owing to various reasons.

However, the exact quantity/count of seized plastic bags was completed within few days after constitution of committee, which came to 4000 bags.

Furthermore, Order-In-Originals were issued after due legal process including issuance of Seizure reports for the quantity of approximately 4000 plastic hags vide Order-In-Original No. 681/2017 dated 24.08.2017  and Order-In-Original No. 703/2017 dated 21.10.2017. Thus actual and whole quantity was duly brought on record by the team, cases instituted and adjudication done after due legal process. There is not even an iota of concealment / misrepresentation of facts in the matter.

The Directorate of I&I Quetta indicated that Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation Quetta has not only surpassed the number and value of seizures in the first quarter of this year when compared to corresponding period of last two years but has also shown a steep rise in the revenue.

Pertinently, in the month of October 2017 only there have been 32 seizures valuing 52.105 million viz-a-viz 19 seizures valuing 39.9 million in October, 2016.
