KARACHI: An appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Muhammad Humayun Khan on Tuesday ordered Collector Customs, Model Customs Collectorate, Hyderabad to immediately release consignments of mobile phones and accessories.

The bench was hearing two identical petitions filed by Muhammad Abreez and Munin Ahmed represented by Zia-ul-Hassan advocate seeking implementation of order of the Special Customs Appellate Tribunal which allowing an appeal by the owners of the consignments ordered release of the goods being locally purchased from local market under valid receipts etc. The tribunal rejected the plea by the department that mobiles and accessories are smuggled one and accepted the appeal of the owners/purchasers.

Today Zia-ul-Hassan advocate submitted that despite orders of the court and specific orders by the tribunal, the goods are not released.

The bench after inquiring from Shakeel Ahmed advocate about the reason for non implementation of the orders of the customs appellate tribunal, ordered that consignments be released forthwith. The court further warned that in case of any delay, strict action would entail.
