KARACHI: An appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Syed Saeed-uddin Nasir on Friday ordered provisional release of a number of consignments while hearing a number of separate but identical petitions.

The petitioners Hansika, Riaz Trading Enterprises and Abdul Aziz Brothers challenged the powers of the custom authorities under section 25 (D) of the Customs Act 1969.

Ghulamullah Shaikh advocate appearing in first petition challenged the Valuation Ruling 848 of 2016 as according to him DG Valuation enhanced the custom duty by 50 per cent. The bench ordered custom authorities to release the consignment on terms and conditions as spelt out in judgment.

The bench in other two petitions also allowed provisional release subject to payment of differential amount and security with Nazir of SHC. The hearing of the petitions was put off indefinitely.
