KARACHI: An Appellate bench of High Court of Sindh while disposing of a contempt of court application filed by an importer and adjourning Special Customs Reference Applications filed by Collector Customs fixed Oct 26 for further hearing.
Earlier the counsel for respondent importer submitted that a SHC bench has asked the applicant Customs department to obtain interim order in the SCRA’s filed by them or release the consignment.
The dispute is over quality which results in higher rate of taxes, the respondent side contested, adding that 4 months have passed but the respondents are not releasing the consignment.
The bench comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Saeed uddin Nasir after hearing Kashif Nazeer Counsel for respondent department ordered the petitioner to pay custom duty and taxes at the rate of 5 per cent while depositing differential amount with the Nazir of the court in the form of security.
The Nazir of SHC was also directed to issue a certificate after payment of taxes duties etc by the.
The bench then disposed of the contempt application while adjourning SCRA for Oct 26.
