KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Syed Saeed-uddin Nasir on Thursday disposed of a constitution petition filed by 187 students of Federal Urdu University, D Pharmacy department.
Munsif Jan advocate appearing for the petitioners told the bench that after five years of studying when the question of award of degree came up, petitioners were told that they cannot get a degree as the university was not affiliated with the Pakistan Pharmacy Council, the regulatory body. The petitioners have paid full tuition fee, exam fees and complied with all requirements for award of degree and after huge expenditure and spending five previous years, they were left to suffer for the fault of the university.
The bench today heard Registrar of the Federal Urdu University and counsel for Pharmacy Council of Pakistan. The counsel for Pharmacy Council said as a one time concession in view of hardship to such a large number of students, the council agrees to relax rules subject to payment of penalty and other payables by the university.
The Registrar of Federal Urdu University stated that they have approached the ministry concerned for the release of amount to resolve the issue.
The bench taking these statement on record disposed of the petition directing the university to pay all dues to the Pharmacy Council by Oct 18 where-after the university will issue examination schedule for the last semester.
