KARACHI: The US Consulate will most likely not be able to re-export the empty containers, which were reportedly pilfered in Pakistan, as Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is unable to entertain US Consulate’s request since the issue is sub-judice before court.

According to details reaching Customnews.pk, FBR would most likely deny the request of US Consulate received recently, seeking permission to re-export the US Army supplies containers, which were found dumped at separate warehouses.

US Consulate provided a list of container numbers and submitted that these were empty containers and mistakenly landed in Pakistan. Since, these were frustrated cargo and need to be re-exported.

However, formations of FBR have already lodged FIRs pertaining to the pilferage of US Army cargo and the matter is sub-judice before court, and the containers cannot be permitted to be removed unless the case is decided.

Sources said that US Consulate might also asked to join some investigation proceedings pertaining to the pilferage of US Army cargo in Pakistan during transit to Afghanistan. Member Customs is reportedly assigned to prepare a comprehensive report of this high profile issue, which may also be share with Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sources said a data/information compilation exercise will soon be initiated and every detail including FIRs, investigation reports, challans, adjudication orders etc regarding pilferage of US Army cargo will be called to the Member’s office. Directorate General of Transit Trade, Directorate General of Intelligence & Investigation–FBR and MCC Preventive Karachi will provide these details.
