KARACHI: MCC Quetta ASO has recovered a large quantity of smuggled cigarette from a train coming from Chaman to Quetta.

Collector MCC Quetta Saeed Jadoon had information that attempt would be made to smuggle goods from Chaman to Quetta in the passenger train.

Organized smuggling has stopped as the Chaman border has been closed down, therefore the smugglers through other non-traditional routes bring goods into Chaman in small quantities in Chaman. These goods are brought on donkey carts, and jeeps etc.

At Guleli check post, the train was stopped and when examined, foreign origin non-duty paid goods particularly cigarette were recovered from a bogy (train compartment), which had been sealed locked by the railway authorities. Source said railway officials were partner in crime.

The operation was conducted by the team headed by Deputy Collector ASO Amanullah Tareen while Superintended Fazl-e-Rabbi, Deputy Superintendent Asad Mir, Inspectors Shahzad and Shabbir and Customs sepoys. Maj. Maqsood was leading the FC team.

Customs Quetta along with FC has already conducted an operation against smuggled vehicles and raided several showrooms housing smuggled vehicles. Sources said another crackdown jointly by FC and Customs is being planned against showrooms housing smuggled vehicles.
