KARACHI: MCC Preventive I&P has arrested Muhammad Ayub Jan s/o Muhammad Israil who was absconding in FIRs regarding smuggling of liquor and explosive material.
Deputy collector Moazzam Raza formed a team headed by SPS Tanveer Ahmed Butt to pursue the case and arrest the absconding accused. Preventive Officer I&P Akbar Ahmed was sent to Peshawar who arrested the accused with the help of Police.
The accused has been brought to Karachi while the customs authorities have secured 7-day remand of the accused from the Special Court.
According to the details of the case, MCC Preventive had information that contraband items would be smuggled into the country in the garb of import consignments intended for transshipment to upcountry.
A consignment was spotted which was imported by M/s Ayub Packages Peshawar and TP was filed by clearing agent M/s Docks Pvt Ltd. Examination of the consignment resulted in recovery of beer, whiskey and wine.
An FIR was lodged and investigations were initiated, while Ayub Jan of M/s Ayub Packages was absconding. It may be mentioned here that Ayub Jan was also booked in FIR by Customs I&I Peshawar for smuggling explosive materials.
Sources said that further arrests were expected following interrogation with the accused Ayub Jan.
