KARACHI: A divisional bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Abdul Malik Gaddi on Tuesday restrained the Inland Revenue (IR) department from harassing the Habit, famous for furniture and other house hold products.
The bench was hearing a harassment petition filed by Monis Abdullah through his counsel Abdul Sattar Pirzada who stated that on Aug 02, a team of officers and officials of the IR, E&C Unit Zone 3, Large Tax Payers Unit (LTU),II entered into the premises of petitioner’s ware house, took away record after harassing the employees.
The petitioner is a registered retailer and not a manufacturer, Pirzada advocate submitted while responding to a query by the court adding that they only sell house hold articles including furniture, utensils, cutlery, decorative articles. We don’t know what is their agenda as so far no show cause or any other notice was received by the petitioner. The ware house is in a rented premises and we only seek protection from undue harassment, he submitted.
The bench after hearing the sides ordering issuance of notices to the respondents including Secretary Revenue Division, Member IR Operations, Commissioner IR, LTU II and Assistant Commissioner IR, E & C Unit. Zone 3, LTU II for Oct 30 ordered them not to harass the petitioner any further.
