KARACHI: MCC Peshawar has seized significant quantity of ‘charas’ and ‘afeem’ worth millions of rupees from the secret compartments of a trailer, which was bringing back an empty container from Afghanistan.

MCC Peshawar also arrested two persons namely Gul Rehman and Rehmat S/o Saeed Gul and lodged the FIR.

Around 200-300 empty containers are transported back from Afghanistan. These containers transport transit trade goods to Afghanistan.

Collector MCC Peshawar has formed Mobile Squads to keep vigil on movement of smuggled non-duty-paid goods and narcotics. Mobile squad Deputy Superintendent Nasir Bukhari and Inspector Naseer Afridi had the information that a truck bearing an empty container was carrying narcotics. The trailer had passed 07 checkposts and was caught on Ring Road. The accused had kept the doors of containers open to hoodwink the officials.

Authorities are developing the Peshawar-Torkham border on international standards and a gates is setup which is fitted with several scanners and barriers. Pakistan and Afghanistan share a 3600KM long border. Authorities have barricaded this border, while border areas which can not be crossed even by pedestrians are not fixed with barricades.

FIA is there for proper immigration, Customs is conducting scanning and examining of goods, militia and Khasadar force has also setup checkposts and there extend all cooperation to Customs. It may be mentioned here the entire campaign is aimed to curbing smuggling, which has been a prime source of funding terrorism and anti-social activities.
