Smuggling narcotics becomes a family business
KARACHI: Authorities have arrested seven persons of a family for attempting to smuggle contraband narcotics worth millions, who have been sent to jail custody. The family was going to perform Umrah.
MCC Preventive I&P has arrested two persons Mohammad Usman Ghani and his cousin Sharyar while ANF has arrested Rubina Khatoon, Sadaf, Rizwan Siddiqui, Salma, Rubina. All the arrested persons are family members of one Mohammad Saleem s/o Abdul Sattar, who is the mastermind of the scam.
Mohammad Saleem was using own family members including wife, son and daughter to transport narcotics. However, Mohammad Saleem is smart enough not to travel with his family. He arranged for the Umrah of his first wife and family and narcotics were found concealed in the luggage. Customs is approaching Court seeking warrant for the arrest of Mohammad Saleem.
According to details available with Customnews.pk, information was received that some passengers would attempt to smuggle narcotics. A group of Umrah passengers and they were asked to declare whether they are carrying any narcotics or other contraband in their baggage or on their person, to which they denied.
Being dissatisfied by their declaration, they were diverted to examination counter along with their baggage comprising of two suit cases for detailed examination which led to recovery of amphetamine duly packed in 13 polythene packets concealed in false bottoms of the suit cases wrapped in black color polythene sheet and black color foam.
