Hearing of petition by alleged duty evader adjourned till June 01

KARACHI: A divisional bench of High Court of Sindh comprising Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan on Tuesday adjourned hearing of a petition filed by Sabiha Anees Trading Enterprises, Lahore being proceeded against by Pakistan Customs for evading duty and taxes to the tune of rupees 40,413, 955.

According to details the petitioner imported 22387.20 kilograms of Austrian processed Cheese (Happy Cow Brand, Assorted Portions)  and filed the GD. After completion of all formalities, the Gate Out was also issued but the consignment was detained by the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigations. A FIR was also registered on 22-3-2016 and a show cause under section 171 of Customs Act 1969 was also issued on same date i.e 22-3-2016.

The request for release of consignment being highly perishable was also turned down after which the petitioner moved the court.

Today the counsel for petitioner filed a rejoinder to the para wise comments filed by the Pakistan Customs Directorate of Intelligence and Investigations, MCC East.

The bench on a request by respondent side adjourned further proceedings till  June 01.
