KARACHI: MCC Gwadar has seized two passenger buses loaded with smuggled goods worth Rs23.1 million.

Collector Gwadar Saeed Akram had received information that contraband items and other goods are being smuggled from Quetta to Karachi through passenger buses.

Collector directed Deputy Collector Aftabullah Shah to take action and two teams were formed each headed by Superintendents Saleem Khokhar and Aslam Baig.

These teams kept vigilance for three days on RCD highway and finally the buses were spotted and seized which led to recovery of Indian gutka, cigarettes, generators, tyres and electronics items worth Rs12.7 million while the buses are values at Rs10.4 million. FIRs have been lodged and investigations are under way.

Sources said that Customs is quite short of staff and a proper vigilance and monitoring is difficult to maintain at all roads, therefore the Customs Gwadar is only relying on intelligence information and raid/operations are being conducted on the basis of these information.
